Frequently Asked Questions
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Research indicates that around 10% of the population is highly susceptible to hypnosis. Although it is possible for the remaining population to be hypnotized, some individuals are less receptive to the practice and may take longer to develop trust in the process. Studies show that individuals who practice meditation tend to possess a strong ability to focus and are generally better hypnosis subjects. Conversely, people with attention disorders may find it challenging to enter into a trance state. Nevertheless, almost anyone who desires to be hypnotized can achieve a relaxed state of hypnosis.
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes, hypnosis is safe. It's a therapeutic tool for healing by consent. Unlike anaesthesia, where there is a loss of control or volition, a person goes "into" hypnosis or deep relaxation.
Are people in control of their body while under hypnosis?
Yes, you are always in control of your mind and body during hypnosis. Contrary to what stage hypnosis shows, you'll remain aware of what you're doing and the suggestions being offered to you. If you're asked to do something that you don't want to do while in a hypnotic state, you won't do it.
Is hypnosis the same as sleeping?
No, hypnosis is not the same as sleeping. While some people may appear to be sleeping during hypnosis, you are always awake. You're just in a deeply relaxed state where your muscles become limp, breathing slows, and you may feel drowsy.
Can people lie while under hypnosis?
Yes, you can lie while under hypnosis. Hypnosis is not a truth serum, and while you may be more open to suggestions during hypnosis, you still have free will. You cannot be made to say or do something in a hypnotic state that you wouldn't want to say or do.
Can you become hypnotized by online audios and content?
Yes, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. However, it's important to note that many online resources are not created by certified hypnotists or hypnosis organizations. Therefore, it's generally advised by certified hypnotists and medical professionals not to use these resources unless the content is created by an accredited hypnosis professional.
Can I be “stuck” in a hypnotic state?
No, being "stuck" in a hypnotic state is a common fear, but it's simply not possible. If the hypnotist were to stop talking and leave, you would either slip into a natural sleep and then wake up or be naturally roused by the absence of the hypnotist's voice.
Will the hypnotist be in control of my mind?
No, you are always in control of your mind during hypnosis. You can hear everything that is being said during the session, and you're able to respond verbally and physically. Your body will be in a deeply relaxed state, but your mind will remain awake and focused.
